BABY STEPS TOWARDS CONCEIVING
Every couple at one time or another wants to have a baby and as a matter of fact we usually think that it an easy process. When at school we used to attend the sex education classes we used to think getting pregnant is pretty easy however it’s not that easy. According to Colorado IVF clinic a couple married for 5 years suddenly tries to conceive and one would think once they are off meds it would be easier to get pregnant. That couple took 3 years to get pregnant. Now that is not a short span of time. Unable to conceive will take its toll physically and emotionally. Age and time plays and key role while conceiving. Generally it takes six months to get pregnant however when a woman is more than 35 years old it may take about a year and the success rate of getting pregnant would become lesser.
The problem why getting pregnant today is difficult is because women today are delaying getting pregnant for various reasons. However, every human body does not function in the same way. Keeping every reason in our mind we have to face the reality that not everyone is successful in conceiving naturally. However there are now unnatural ways to conceive.
Let us look into the methods that are commonly used:
- Artificial insemination: It is a process where concentrated sperm which is taken from the father or a sperm donor in case the father is infertile is inserted in the mother’s vagina or uterus.
- Drug Therapy: To correct hormonal problems in your body drug therapy is used. Such as Pergonal is a hormonal medicine which increases egg or sperm development. Metrodin is another such hormonal medicine which again stimulates growth rate of an egg.
- IVF: Egg donation Denver says in this process the eggs are fertilized with sperm in a petri dish. A woman goes through drug therapy to stimulate egg development, then the eggs are collected from the uterus and are places on the sperm in the petri dish in order to fertilize them More than one fertilized eggs are then placed in the mother’s womb. Not all fertilized eggs can develop . The other remaining eggs are can be frozen in case of future implants. The success rate of this process is 15-20 % .
- GIFT (gamete intrafallopian transfer): It is a process in which both the sperm and eggs are placed in the fallopian tube. As per fertility clinics they descend into the uterus in natural method and fertilize there. The success rate of this process is 20-25%
- ZIFT (zygote intrafallopian transfer): In this process the eggs and the sperm are fertilized in a petri dish and then are placed in the fallopian tube. That travels to the uterus naturally and the process goes on. The success rate of this process is 20-25%
- ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection): This process is helpful for those couples in which the man has low sperm motility or the sperm cannot penetrate the egg. In this process the sperm is injected into the egg and then placed in to the uterus. As per experts the success rate is 20-25%
- Surrogacy: When all the processes fail the last resort is surrogacy. When a woman is unfit to carry a child or both the father and mother are unable to reproduce they take help of other women. The surrogate mother will then carry the fertilized egg for nine months.
All the above mentioned processes are very costly and expensive . It is always good for people who are trying to conceive consult with a doctor.
